Review: Teething & Fiddle Necklace by Maybe Baby

Maybe Baby fiddle and teething necklace review

About Maybe Baby teething and fiddle necklaces

Maybe Baby teething and fiddle necklaces are made to be worn by a supervising adult but played with by babies. The jewellery is made using strong, soft cord, with soft BPA free silicone beads and hard untreated wood beads. The necklace fastening is a strong plastic snap, designed to come apart if pulled hard.

My Review

Since having Baby necklaces have been a thing of the past. The small shiny pendants and thin chains that I once wore would last lest than 5 seconds around my magpie eyed little trouble maker, so when I was asked to try one of Maybe Baby’s teething necklaces, I was excited to discover whether they would allow me to finally wear jewellery again.

Maybe Baby fiddle and teething necklace reviewMy biggest concern before receiving the necklace was that it needed to be durable. Even with supervision, small beads around a baby are not a good idea unless you’re sure they are going to stay put. With that in mind I was pleased to see that Maybe Baby teething necklaces are made with a thick woven cord. To make sure this would stand up to the wear and tear of being fiddled with and chewed, I did everything I could to break it, including trying to snap it, cut it by rubbing across it with my fingernail repeatedly and I even attempted to chew it a bit. None of these efforts cause the least bit of damage so I’m confident it would stand up to Baby’s efforts of mass destruction.

The fastening of the necklace is a plastic snap which is designed to come apart should your baby attempt to strangle you. This is an excellent idea as Baby is freakishly strong when she chooses to grab something (like hair!) so it’s nice to know that neck bruising will be kept to a minimum, should she get over excited but conversely, the snap is also strong enough that the necklace doesn’t come open at a drop of a hat, you do have to give it a good yank.

Baby seems to enjoy touching and grabbing hold of them but hasn’t quite worked out that she can nibble them yet. I have also taken to using them as stress beads and may have nibbled the end of one or two myself!

Obviously, as this is a piece of jewellery, it’s important that it looks and feels good and I absolutely love the necklace I took for a test drive. The necklace looks really attractive and fashionable and the weight is just right. Heavy enough to be dangly without being so heavy as to be uncomfortable. I was also happy that the necklace has no metal fastenings as this means it can be worn by people with metal allergies like me.

  1. I would love to win because I’m sure we all know how hard it is for us mummys to cope with a teething child. The sleepless nights and constant crying. However due to this we tend to forget just how painful it must be for the child. Therefore anything like the above is perfect to help and try to relieve some pain for the child and some peace for the parent πŸ™‚

  2. This is a very interesting idea. My youngest baby is 6 now, but I have a brand new grandbaby and I think my daughter would love to have one of these. My thought, though … doesn’t it get gross with baby slobbering on it?

    1. Hey, If Baby has been slobbering over it I just give it a clean when I clean her bottles in the evening. During the day I haven’t noticed that it was particularly gross, but then, Baby usually slobbers all over my hands, arms and shoulders so I may be desensitized! πŸ˜‰

  3. I’d love to win this because my poor little 4 month old is getting a tooth through and I think this would really help her as well as stimulating her senses and helping her to learn!

  4. Gift for friend, she can feel feminine wearing jewellery :- Whilst also Caring for her Dearly Loved First Baby, who will likely begin teething in the next few months.

  5. I love this idea as my two loved fiddling with my necklaces, but like you I would have been concerned about durability. Great to hear that this is made of tough stuff and even better that it is safe for fellow allergic types like myself too! Thanks for sharing with #DreamTeam x
