My Review of the Mini Me Gift Box Shop

When my Mini Me gift box arrived my very first thought was that the owner of the Mini Me Gift Box Shop was missing a trick. Before I even opened the package I was delighted by the pretty pink box it came in. It’s very sturdy, has a magnetic seal, a ribbon tie, and it looks both practical and pretty. If I bought a similar keepsake box in Paperchase (for example) I would expect to pay £10 or more, so I really was surprised that the box itself wasn’t mentioned on the gift box descriptions.

With such a strong start, I had high hopes for the content of my box and I wasn’t disappointed. Under lots of pink and purple tissue paper was an adorable selection of items which had been arranged and wrapped with obvious care and attention to detail. Any item which might conceivably be damaged in transit was carefully wrapped in an extra layer of tissue paper and tied up with ribbon, making it both pretty and practical. The result was an almost theatrical display of brightly coloured tissue and ribbons which reminded me of the splendour of Victorian department stores.

I spent a remarkable amount of time enjoying the presentation of the gift box before looking a little deeper at the items included. Although everything looked lovely, I do find that sometimes when a lot of effort has been put into the presentation of a box, the contents are actually cheap and cheerful. In these cases the pretty ribbons and wrapping are there to disguise the actual content. I’m pleased to say that this wasn’t the case with Mini Me. All of the products from the cute bibs, through to the swaddle were absolutely wonderful. The fabrics were luxuriously soft, the keepsake and soap looked good, and even the card was a lovely design and quality.

Had I received this gift box for Baby I would have been absolutely over the moon with it and I honestly can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t be.

As a rule when I review a product I always look for areas where it could be improved, no matter how small and it’s a rare day when I honestly cannot think of anything but the quality, attention to detail, and obvious love that went into preparing this product absolutely bowled me over. I can’t even quibble over the price as there are many lovely boxes available for under £35 which is very reasonable value for such a lovely thing.

If anything, my only bug bare is that Mini Me currently only offer boxes for newborns. I can imagine that similar boxes made for older children would be very popular for birthdays and special occasions. I will keep my fingers crossed that this will be an area of future expansion!

What does it do well?

  1. The one standout gift I can remember is a musical seahorse, I think it costs about £20 from Argos and you can get them in blue or pink. I started using it when I was putting my little boy down from when he was a few days old, and then as he got a little bit older, he just associated it with sleeping. It’s still in his bedroom even now.

  2. Apart from the gift of my kids themselves. The best ever baby gift I received was a hand made baby quilt made by by sister. She has used material from a dress of mine when I was a little girl, parts of an old rag doll i had treasure, bits of my nans old curtains and lots of personal bits and new pieces to make the most beautiful hand stitched baby quilt.

  3. Premium bonds, so the children have a kick start to their savings for university or a house (although I darent think how much deposit they’ll need!!!) but they also sometimes win money so we let them choose something to buy now!

  4. I don’t have children but my niece and nephew have had some beautiful personalised bits when they were born. Lovely keepsakes. My friend is due in 2 months so this would be lovely to give toher.

  5. A squeaking dog soft toy which is just the right size for my little one to hold gifted by Nanny. He giggles and smiles every time it squeaks and keeps him entertained and happy. He takes it everywhere we go.

  6. A small teddy with a key to wind him up to play a lullaby. He became known as ” Windup” and is now in the care of my youngest granddaughter

  7. An in-ear thermometer. It’s not the sort of thing people think about buying as a gift, but has been an essential for us. I will be buying one for my sister who is due to have her first baby in September.x

  8. A beautiful crystal dummy from baby’s great aunt – we’re going to put it on a shelf in its original box in his nursery 🙂 x

  9. I don’t have any children myself but I bought the cutest little Union Jack bedazzled sneakers for my Niece when she was born (they live in America) and I would love to win this prize for my sister as she is going through IVF and I know it’s going to work

  10. Hand knitted garments from various family members; maybe not the most ‘trendy’ and perhaps a little lumpy in places, but they were made with such love and that’s truly priceless.

    1. Aww, that’s lovely. I think it’s adorable when family members make handmade gifts. My step-children’s grandma very kindly makes Baby a cardigan every couple of months. They’re adorable and such kind gifts.

  11. I am expecting my little boy in 9 weeks and the best gift I have received is a gorgeous blanket for when he comes home from hospital

  12. I’m a first time dad whose baby is due at the end of September. My mum is knitting like crazy and has given us a lovely blanket, so I would have to say that.

Thanks for the chance to win this Mini Me Unisex Baby Gift Box, it look fabulous and would be put to good use.

  13. It would have to be a lovely Victorian lace Christening gown my mother-in-law gave me which has been in their family since 1865. I have to take special care of it though…so it’s a bit of a responsibility 😉

  14. Our favourite gift has to have been a baby monitor. When explaining to a friend that we were unsure about what to get she convinced me to get a movement sensor. The next morning one was delivered to us!!!
So in theory the gift wasn’t just a monitor it was peace of mind and a better night’s sleep for us 🙂

  15. Homemade cotton swaddle cloths. They were so useful I couldn’t understand why every new mum didn’t use them. Nice to see them popular again now.

  16. Best gift for me – my sister would come round at 6am when she got off a night shift and take over for a couple of hours. Life saver!

  17. When my son Jack was born it was the midwife’s first ever experience of delivering a baby. When Jack appeared she started to cry and so did i and afterwards she bourght me a basket of baby toiletries. I have never forgotten her and still have the little blue wicker basket in my bathroom.

  18. The week after we told my husband’s grandma we were expecting, she turned up at our house with a hand knitted cardi, hat, mittens and booties. So cute.

  23. The best new baby gift we received was a hamper full of gifts both for me for when our little one is born and beautiful little bits and pieces for our baby when she arrives, it was the thought behind this that has made it so special. It has a box of my favourite chocolates, a bottle of champagne, some gorgeous body creams. lotions and potions, a relaxation CD, a lovely pair of new PJ’s and slipppers for me, and some beautiful clothes, toiletries, muslin squares, scratch mitts, toys and a shawl for our little one!

  24. I haven’t had any as yet as I have just found out I am pregnant for the first time which is super exciting! We aren’t going to find out the sex of the baby so this would be perfect for us!

  25. I had 2 favourite gifts. My adult daughter bought us the crib I absolutely loved and that I thought had sold out and my lovely mother-in-law gave me my husbands baby shawl which I’ve now used for both our babies.
