It’s time for sketch 2 in my 25 sketch challenge. I have to admit that I wasn’t very happy with my first sketch, I knew that it was no where near what I was capable of so before I started sketch 2 I spent some time watching others sketching on YouTube, just to remind myself of a few of the techniques that I had obviously forgotten. As a result sketch 2 looks like it was done by a different person!
This time I chose Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in Star Wars as my subject. I’m a big Star Wars fan so I really enjoyed this one, in fact I enjoyed it so much that I’m considering using other Star Wars characters for further sketches. A few people have asked why I haven’t sketched Baby, well that is on the cards too but I want to get my skills back up to par before I sketch her as I will most likely have the sketch framed.
Back to todays sketch. It really is in a different league than sketch 1 but it’s still not perfect. They eyes aren’t quite right and the shading is a little rough in places. Both of these points are issues of practice and I’m hoping they will improve as time goes on and I keep drawing.
So, what do I have in store for sketch 3? Well, now that I’m a little happier with my work I’m hoping to film my next sketch in an ASMR video. If you’ve never heard of ASMR, they are relaxation videos usually featuring repetitive motions or sounds which almost hypnotise the watcher. Sketching in real time really lends itself to this and as I like watching others sketch in real time I thought it would be fun to do one myself. Watch this space!
